What is the MIDS Neck Lift™
The MIDS Neck Lift™ is a procedure that uses limited incisions that are well hidden to sculpt multiple layers of the neck. Unlike neck or submental liposuction that simply reduces the superficial fat under the skin, the MIDS Neck Lift is a more comprehensive procedure that treats multiple layers of the neck.
When discussing neck lifting, the layers of the neck can be viewed as the superficial structures (skin and its associated superficial fat), platysma muscle, and deep structures. The superficial fat is located between the skin and the platysma muscle. The platysma muscle is a thin, flat sheet of muscle that covers the majority of the front of the neck. The platysma muscle can sag and the inner (medial) edges can become visible and appear droopy. This muscle is also what causes platysmal banding, which is the appearance of vertical lines that become prominent when the muscle contracts. Below the platysma muscle are the deeper structures of the neck, such as the deeper fat, digastric muscles, and submandibular glands. These structures add varying degrees of fullness to the neck, which depends from person to person.
The strength of the MIDS Neck lift is that it treats all the layers mentioned above, typically just using a small incision under the chin that heals very well and not noticeable. The superficial fat is reduced using liposuction and/or with scissors. Because a small incision is made under the chin, the fat can be visualized as it is being removed and sculpted. The platysma muscle can be tightened if needed (e.g. platysmaplasty). The deeper structures are sculpted and reduced. This includes the ability to sculpt the deeper fat, digastric muscles, and submandibular glands. In addition, horizontal fasciotomy and transverse platysmal myototomy can be performed to further improve the sharpness of the cervicomental angle.
When deciding between liposuction or the MIDS Neck Lift, one has to consider the overall goal and what is causing the majority of fullness. In some people, most of the fullness can be due to the superficial fat, and these individuals can have a great result with just liposuction. However, individuals whose submental fullness is mainly due to deeper fat or deeper structures, or those individuals who desire the greatest improvement, would benefit from the MIDS Neck Lift.

MIDS Neck Lift™ FAQ
How long does it take to recover and heal after a facelift?
- Swelling and bruising typically increases during the first 3 to 4 days.
- By one to two weeks, sufficient swelling and bruising have reduced that most patients feel comfortable resuming social and work activities. At that time, makeup can usually be used if necessary.
- By two to four weeks after the procedure, you are usually looking great. However, it will take several more months for the majority of the healing to occur and for most of the swelling to resolve. Your neck contour and jawline will continue to get even better during this time.
