Effective concealment of bruises typically requires application of multiple layers of makeup.

The first step in concealing a bruise is color correction—using a shade that neutralizes the tone of the bruise. For purple-toned bruises, apply a yellow-tinted corrector. If the bruise appears red, opt for a green-toned product. For bruises in the later stages of healing that appear yellow, a peach or orange-toned corrector works best. As a general rule, choose a color opposite the bruise on the color wheel to effectively cancel it out. One popular option for color correction is the NYX Color Correcting Palette.

Once you’ve blocked out the discoloration, you’ll need to cover the area with a layer of product that is similar to the shade of your skin tone. Always be careful not cause any irritation or discomfort to the area by applying gently and carefully. A popular concealer is the Dermablend Cover Care Concealer.

If you have incisions from your procedure, you will need to wait until your sutures are removed and the wound has healed before you can start using makeup at those areas.

Be sure to carefully cleanse your face and remove all traces of makeup in the evening. Using a cleansing oil will soften your skin and loosen the makeup, so you do not have to rub or put pressure on the sensitive areas. It is imperative you never apply cosmetics to any open wounds or stitches to avoid the increased risk of complications.
